Love this article Nick, completely agree. It's not luck, it's hard work alot of the time (particularly when first starting out), but it's all done knowing that I've made a choice to ensure I live a life enjoying the kind of lifestyle I want. For me this means working from home, trying to build a Client base to make enough to enjoy my life, wherever I want to be. It's not luck, it's forward-thinking, positivity and strength.

Loved this article. I work from my laptop, have my own business, travel the world (no permanent base), and I am with my husband and kids, am I lucky? Yeah I am lucky, I turned out to be me. Otherwise all this might never have happened ;)

Gday Kristin,

Thanks for the comment.

It IS a scary choice, but farout what a rewarding one! After the first few terrifying months, you know that you just have to knuckle down and get it right because there is no cushy salary to fall back on. That was exactly my greatest motivation to succeed.

Looks like you are doing well too so congratulations! I hope all of our 'luck' continues for a long time yet.

I know it's not been luck for you or me because we have gone through the same journey at the same time.

All those stupid nights working till 2am are starting to look worth it now though hey?

Great article Nick. I'm 'lucky' too. But you're right you have to choose (and it can be a bloody scary choice) to leave the safety of the golden handcuffs of employee-dom, especially with a Sydney mortgage - but if its really what you want, you make it work somehow. Long may you be one of the 'lucky' ones.

Hey Nick

Great article! People say this to me all the time.. Oh that's great you have been so lucky in business to be where you are. It is really frustrating.. Actually no I'm not lucky I have worked my butt off for the past 4 years to get where I am.

No luck about it. When I started I had no idea how to market or even get my business out there so I spent months and months reading and educating myself, not to mention the ridiculously long hours I was working.

Yes I am fortunate enough to spend so much time with my kids and don't have to commute but it took me 18 months to get there after hard work and not luck.

Gday James,

First of all, I’ve hardly ‘made it’ mate.

Secondly, yes we don’t have a mortgage at the moment because we like renting. It suits us – because we are both hopeless at fixing stuff but pretty good at breaking stuff. The real estate is on speed-dial…

But we put what we would normally put into a mortgage into our business. And it’s built up nicely. Over a few years now. Not overnight.

You seem like a young bloke mate, surely you haven’t given up yet.

What do you WANT to do?

Hey Nick

That's kinda easy for you to say now because you've made it. I have a mortgage - well beyond what my salary as a phone monkey lets me have anything left for spending or fun.

I don't even have kids yet but I'm consigned to the commute and stuff for a while yet...
